Storm Kalmaegi causes loss of VND20 billion to northern province
Statistics from the Quang Ninh provincial Steering Committee on Flood and Storm Prevention recorded that the landfall of storm Kalmaegi on September 16 caused loss to property but there had been no human fatalities reported.
According to the steering committee, the wind from the storm collapsed 6 houses and unroofed 147 others; destroyed 20 power poles and 1 television mast; caused fires at 2 transformer stations and brought down many trees.
In addition, over 5,000 hectares of rice were damaged, raising the estimated property loss to over VND20 billion.
The storm is still delivering torrential rain in different parts of the province. Families who had to be relocated before the storm landed have returned to their home while authorised agencies are urgently providing resourses to overcome the consequences of the storm.
With a risk of high tides and floods, localities across the province are preparing to deal with possible consequences.
