As planned, 38 machines worth over VND1 billion are being distributed to the collectives between 2013 and 2015.
According to the provincial Department of Fisheries, the equipment is expected to encourage fishermen to set up more collectives to increase economic efficiency and create more favourable conditions for mutual support during production and rescue work at sea, in the event of hazardous prevailing conditions.
Tien Giang has now 11 groups of production collectives at sea with 60 fishing vessels and 423 labourers. In addition, the province has also seen the establishment of 51 teams involving 435 fishing vessels and nearly 4,000 labourers working in each other’s mutual support.
By assisting each other, fishermen can remain at sea longer and better preserve their catch resulting in better economic returns for all concerned.
