Deputy PM Phuc made the request while attending a ceremony in Hanoi on November 28 to mark the ‘Vietnam Anti-counterfeit Goods Day’ (November 29).
The event was jointly held by the Market Management Department under the Ministry of Industry and Trade, and the Vietnam Association for Anti-counterfeiting and Trademark Protection (VATAP).
The Deputy PM also urged relevant agencies to step up their efforts to intensity the fight against smuggling, fake goods and trade fraud.
At the ceremony, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Tran Quoc Khanh reported that the ministry uncovered more than 64,000 violations and collected fines worth VND187 billion (US$8.7 million) during the first eight months of this year.
According to VATAP Chairman Le The Bao, violations of intellectual property and industrial design regulations have become more sophisticated. Fake goods are both manufactured domestically and smuggled into the country, including those that affect public health.
He also expressed his wish that functional agencies would map out more effective projects to intensify the fight and to detect and punish law violators.
