Memorial held for victims of traffic accidents
Nearly 5,000 Buddhist monks, nuns and followers attended a solemn requiem held at Vinh Nghiem Pagoda in Ho Chi Minh City by the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) to pray for the souls of traffic accident victims.

The annual memorial is among several activities held in response to the World Day of Remembrance for Victims of Road Traffic Accidents, which falls on the third Sunday of November.
The event was an occasion to commemorate the victims of traffic accidents, share the deep suffering of their families and relatives, and raise public awareness of traffic law compliance.
Through the requiem, the VBS and the National Committee for Traffic Safety called on all traffic users to value their lives and others’, in a joint effort to reduce traffic accidents, Most Venerable Thich Duc Nghiep, Vice President of the VBS’s Executive Council, stated.
According to statistics released by the National Committee for Traffic Safety, traffic accidents are responsible for over 7,000 deaths nationwide in the first 10 months of 2014, 70% of whom are in working age and some are breadwinners of their families.
