Vietnam Railways adds more trains for Tet holiday
Vietnam Railways (VR) announced on November 4 that it will increase the number of trains during the upcoming Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday, from February 8, 2015 to March 2, 2015, in order to meet demand and reduce overload.
According to the leader of VR, 14 trains with 12,000 seats per day will be allocated for the Hanoi – Ho Chi Minh City route and Ho Chi Minh City – Hanoi.
During the Tet holiday, VR will continue to run five trains, at around 3,000 seats per day, on routes from Ho Chi Minh City to Hue, Quang Ngai, Quy Nhon, Nha Trang and Phan Thiet; 17 trains on routes from Hanoi to Vinh and Thanh Hoa; four trains on routes from Hanoi to Lao Cai.
In addition to selling tickets at railway stations across the country and through their hotline (04 39423949), VR will also begin selling tickets at www.dsvn.vn as of December 1.
Each passenger can book a maximum of four one-way tickets on the website. During the first stage, the website will serve only individual passengers, including the elderly and children.
People under preferential treatment policy are Vietnamese heroic mothers, children with disabilities, disabled people, war veterans, and wounded soldiers who will be assisted at railway stations. In order to restrict speculating on train tickets, the station will only accept and release the tickets when passengers provide their identity card or other documents with photo identification.
