Nation expects number of trained labourers to 70% of workforce
Forecasts from the General Directorate of Vocational Training under the Ministry of Labour, War-Invalids and Social Affairs estimate that by 2020, the number of trained labourers will reach nearly 44 million, accounting for 70% of the total workforce.

The information was announced during a recent conference on developing human resources through vocational training held in Hanoi.
The forecasts revealed that the Vietnamese labour force is increasing year on year and is expected to reach nearly 63 million by 2020. Of this number, 35-38% will be working in the agricultural sector, 31% in the construction – industrial sector and 27-29% in the service sector.
According to Dang Xuan Thuc, Head of the Regular Vocational Training Department, to increase the quality of the human resources, in the 2016-2020 period, vocational training will focus on complete vocational training programs and develop key industries, to meet the needs of ASEAN and the world.
By 2020, the General Directorate of Vocational Training is expected to issue 210 new groups of national vocational training skills, build 298 banks of multiple choice questions and tests to assess and grant national vocational training certificates for some 6 million labourers.
Earlier, in May, the Government adopted a project to develop high quality vocational training schools by 2020. Under the project, in the 2014-2016 period, the country is conducting pilot training with 34 key industries based on the curricular transferred from foreign countries. In the next period, the project will focus on expanding vocational training so that it satisfies the ASEAN and international standard.
