The information was announced at a press conference held in Hanoi on January 20 by the Tien Phong (Vanguard) newspaper, the Committee of National Traffic Safety, the Administration of Medical Examination and Treatment under the Ministry of Health and the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion.

Taking part in the campaign are cities of Hanoi, Hai Phong, Da Nang, Can Tho and Ho Chi Minh, together with the provinces of Nam Dinh, Thai Binh, Thai Nguyen, Phu Tho, Vinh Phuc, Bac Giang, Bac Ninh, Thanh Hoa, Lang Son, Nghe An, Dak Lak, Khanh Hoa and Quang Ninh.

The campaign is expected to receive 15,000 blood units each day during the campaign. Many universities registered to receive over 1,000 blood units, including the Hanoi Technology University (1,500 units), the Thai Binh Medical and Pharmaceutical University and the Thai Binh Medical College (1,100 units), the Thai Nguyen University (1,300 units). Apart from Nam Dinh province, which registered to collect 1,500 blood units, other provinces and cities expect to receive 800-1,000 blood units in the drive.

This year, more provinces, cities and educational institutions will join the campaign than last year, thus the ‘Red Sunday’ will take place on January 25 and February 1. Some other blood donation activities responding to the campaign will be organised on January 9 or on other Sundays.

With the message ‘Blood Donation to Save People - the Life of You and I’, the ‘Red Sunday’ campaign has been launched by the Tien Phong newspaper and organised annually since 2009. The campaign was honoured with the National Pioneer Prize in 2014 for its outstanding achievements and contributions.
