Deputy PM urged traffic sector to reduce traffic death toll
The transport sector has been asked to reduce the number of traffic accident cases, traffic fatalities and injuries between 5 and 10% in 2015.
Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc made the request at a nationwide online conference held on January 13 to review the traffic safety situation in 2014 and set expectations for 2015.
Deputy PM Phuc, who is also Chairman of the National Traffic Safety Committee, urged the sector to promote the slogan of ‘Life Above All’ and take every action to realise this motto.
The sector should devise legal documents and properly allocate funding to improve State management of traffic safety and to ensure traffic safety is given highest priority, particularly on the upcoming Tet (traditional Lunar New Year) festival 2015.

Each locality should set up a hotline for locals to pass on their feedback regarding traffic safety, he requested.
According to Minister of Transport Dinh La Thang, in 2014, the country saw a decrease in traffic accidents on three levels: number of traffic accident cases, number of injuries, and number of fatalities.
Traffic jams have also improved in big cities including Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.
The sector has also work closely with relevant ministries, sectors and local authorities to improve public awareness on traffic law, while enforcing stricter punishments for violations.
During the conference, representatives from localities exchanged their opinions and proposed solutions to curb traffic accidents and ensure traffic safety and order.
