Featuring seven clinical departments, 22 operating rooms and 365 beds, the building required a total investment of VND394 billion (US$18.4 million), a third of which was sourced from the State budget.
The hospital now boasts a total of 1,450 beds and 52 operating rooms.
Hospital Director Nguyen Tien Quyet said the establishment of the high-tech medical facility is designed to better serve patients and address the issue of locals travelling overseas for treatment.
The same day, the National Paediatric Hospital inaugurated a new medical centre as part of a project to expand and upgrade the hospital.
The 75,000-square-metre facility is capable of handling up to a thousand patients at a time.
In 2014, the paediatric hospital treated more than 700,000 inpatients and over 80,000 outpatients.
