Publication highlights Vietnam's sovereignty over Hoang Sa, Truong Sa
The Italy-Vietnam Friendship Association has launched an Italian language publication themed ‘Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagos: an integral part of Vietnam’s territory’ on the occasion of the 20th publishing anniversary of its Mekong Magazine.
Presenting documentation from Vietnam and other countries, the publication aims to provide Italian readers with insight into Vietnam’s discovery and sovereignty claim over the two archipelagos.

Political and historical events as well as the debate following China’s recent dispatching of an oil rig to Vietnam’s continental shelf and exclusive economic zone – considered an illegal move which aroused international concerns and threatened peace in the region and the world – were detailed in the publication.
The special issue was presented to universities, organisations and individuals in Italy and other European countries. The Association plans to publicise the current issue through Italian cities, expanding the awareness of the enclosed information.
Sandra Scagliotti, Vietnamese Honour Consul in Turin city, who is also chief editor of the publication, emphasised the significance of the publication as a tangible representation of the support of Italians for Vietnam’s efforts to safeguard its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Initiated in 1994, the Mekong Magazine features traditions and customs, culture, history, and languages of Vietnam and other Indochinese nations, making practical contributions to raising Italian readers and scholars’ knowledge of Vietnam as well as promoting friendship and mutual understanding between the two peoples.
The Italy-Vietnam Friendship Association was established in 1986 and now has seven chapters in Italy. Besides its website, the association runs a library with thousands of book titles on Vietnam.
