The prosecution was related to acts of "violation of regulations on occupational safety" under Article 227 of the Criminal Code.
As reported by Nhan Dan, at 8pm on March 25, the scaffolding, part of a project contracted by Samsung C&T at Son Duong wharf (Formosa), suddenly collapsed, killing 13 construction workers and injuring 28 others.
Shortly after the incident, Ha Tinh leaders and related functions arrived at the scene to direct rescue plans. The health sector in collaboration with local hospitals has provided emergency care and treatment for the victims.
Interdisciplinary missions have been formed to investigate the cause of the accident and responsibilities of the parties concerned. According to initial investigation results, the cause was revealed to be the result of a technical failure in the scaffolding's hydraulic brake system, with 2/3 of hydraulic plungers on the right side broken down, leading to the scaffolding sliding down and collapsing.
Regarding financial support for the victims, Samsung C&T and constructors agreed to provide compensation worth VND400 million each for families of workers killed in the accident. Compensation for the injured is pending due to treatments yet to be completed.
Nearly a week after the incident, six injured workers treated at Ky Anh district General Hospital have been discharged. Fourteen workers are still being treated Ha Tinh General Hospital and eight others with serious injuries are yet to be discharged in Hanoi.
