A meeting took place on April 27 in Binh Duong province with the participation of former State President Nguyen Minh Triet; Politburo member and Minister of Public Security, General Tran Dai Quang; Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Huynh Ngoc Son; and representatives of ministries, sectors and local residents.
Addressing the function, Politburo member Quang hailed achievements made by the provincial Party committee, army and people during the national anti-US resistance war as well as in the current development process. The province is a leading locality nationwide in developing industry, improving service quality and attracting foreign investment capital, he stressed.
In Soc Trang province the same day, Politburo member and Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc joined the local people to mark the ceremony.
He presented the ‘Hero of People’s Armed Forces’ title to seven collectives and ‘Vietnamese Heroic Mothers’ titles to seven mothers in recognition of their contributions to the national resistance war against the US.
Earlier, he visited and presented gifts to families of war veterans in wards 2 and 7 in the province.
The same events were also observed in Dong Nai, Ben Tre, Dong Thap, Ba Ria-Vung Tau, Tuyen Quang and Vinh Phuc provinces in the presence of Party and State high-ranking officials.
On the occasion, a live television programme linking Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh city was held in the evening of April 27.
The event featured songs, dances and documentaries recalling historical landmarks in the General Uprising 1975 as well as the people’s patriotism and determination to fight and to win during the period.
The programme also included talks with historical witnesses who were directly involved in the event.
A symposium reviewing 40 years of national reunification and the country’s Doi Moi (Renewal) process, development and integration was organised in Hanoi yesterday by the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences.
Around 70 speeches delivered at the event by Vietnamese and foreign researchers from UK, Russia, France, Australia, US, China, Laos and Cambodia highlighted the tremendous victory of the general offensive and uprising of Spring 1975.
The participants also pointed out challenges facing Vietnam during its international integration process and suggested solutions to facilitate the country’s sustainable development.
