Writing contest on national sea and islands launched

The Vietnam Sea Magazine under the Vietnam Journalists’ Association launched a writing contest themed ‘For national sea and islands’ in Hanoi on May 8, aiming to boost communication and raise public awareness of issues relating to seas and islands.

The contest provides an occasion for Vietnamese citizens to demonstrate patriotism as well as their sentiments to officials, soldiers and law enforcement forces working day and night to safeguard the country’s sea and island sovereignty.

It also aims to promote patriotism among young people and is a practical activity in response to the ‘2015 Sea and Island Week’ and the ‘2015 National Year on Sea and Islands’.

The contest is open to all Vietnamese citizens living, studying and working in Vietnam regardless of their age, education level and occupation, with a wide range of topics including the role of sea and islands in the national construction and defence cause, potentials and strengths of Vietnam’s sea and islands, scientific achievements in developing sea and island economy, the reality of current sea environment and ways to defend national sea and island sovereignty.

There will be 11 prizes up for grabs including one special prize (VND30 million), one first prize (VND20 million), two second prizes (VND10 million each), three third prizes (VND5 million each) and four consolation prizes (VND2 million each). In addition, a sub-prize worth VND1 million will be awarded to the contestant with the most entries.
