Taiwanese labour market to receive Vietnamese maids and fishermen
Taiwan (China) has agreed to receive Vietnamese labourers working as domestic helpers and fishermen from July 1st, ten years after a suspension as a result of the high number of labourers fleeing from the labour market, the Overseas Labourer Management Department under the Ministry of Labour, War-Invalids and Social Affairs (MOLISA) has reported.

According to the deal reached by the two sides, domestic helpers sent to the Taiwanese will stand a surety of USD2,036 and receive TWD17,500 in salary each month. Meanwhile, fishermen will receive a salary of TWD19,273 per month with an surety of USD1,550.
The contract for these groups of labourers will last 3 years. During the contract, labourers will be provided free accommodations, food and at least a one-way flight home.
Vietnam has sent labourers to Taiwan since 1999, with 80% of the workers being domestic assistants. In 2005, a large number fled from the market, causing the suspension.
