Arts programme pays tribute to fallen female volunteers of Dong Loc

A programme was held on July 23 at the Dong Loc T-junction historical relic site in the central province of Ha Tinh to mark 68th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs Day (July 27) and 47th anniversary of the Dong Loc T-junction victory (July 24).

The annual programme was co-organised by Nhan Dan (People) Newspaper, Ha Tinh province and Vietnam Television.

The event was attended by Politburo members: Secretary of Party Central Committee (PCC) To Huy Rua who is also Head of the PCC Commission for Organisation and National Assembly Vice Chairwoman Tong Thi Phong.

Addressing the ceremony, member of the Party Central Committee and Editor-in-Chief of Nhan Dan (People) Newspaper, Thuan Huu, highlighted the contributions and sacrifice made by the 10 young female volunteers as well as thousands of soldiers, transportation workers and people who laid down their lives to safeguard the transport route linking to the southern front on July 24, 1968 at the Dong Loc T-junction.

He went on to underline the sacrifice of the young girls, which has become an immortal legend in the history of national liberation and reunification and will be forever remembered as a noble symbol of Vietnam's revolutionary heroism.

The programme, entitled ‘Dong Loc – Immortal Sacred Realm’, featured unique songs and dances recalling the heroic sacrifice of young volunteers, soldiers and civilians at the T-junction as well as praising the Party, Uncle Ho and the land and people of the country, particularly in Ha Tinh province.

At the ceremony, Standing Vice Chairman of Ha Tinh provincial People Committee Nguyen Thien expressed his gratitude to the ten heroic girls, martyrs, war invalids and injured soldiers, who made sacrifices to keep traffic flowing to the southern front, ensuring the glorious Dong Loc T-junction victory.

The long-standing cultural and resilient revolutionary tradition is a source of pride and strong encouragement to the province’s Party and people during the process of sustainable, prosperous and civilised development.

On the occasion, Nhan Dan Newspaper gave 11 savings books worth VND10 million each to the families of the fallen young female volunteers and a policy beneficiary as well as presented more than VND100 million to support the Lam Hong Study Encouragement Fund, the management board of the Dong Loc T-junction historical site and the Ex-Youth Volunteers' Associations of Nghe An and Ha Tinh provinces.
