Red Journey targets 17,000 units of blood for patients

In 2015, the journey encouraging blood donation through the nation, known as ‘Red Journey’, will last from July 3rd- 26th across 22 provinces and cities, Nguyen Anh Tri, Head of the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion (NIHBT) and Head of the journey organising committee has said.

Accordingly, a delegation of the journey will start from Ho Chi Minh city on July 3rd to the 12 provinces and cities of Ca Mau, Bac Lieu, Can Tho, Lam Dong, Dak Lak, Khanh Hoa, Binh Dinh, Quang Ngai, Da Nang, Quang Binh, Nghe An and Thanh Hoa.

Meanwhile, the other delegation will engine the journey on July 11th in the 9 localities of Hanoi, Vinh Phuc, Tuyen Quang, Thai Nguyen, Lang Son, Bac Giang, Bac Ninh, Hai Duong and Ninh Binh.

The two delegations are expected to collect at least 17,000 units of blood to satisfy the demand for blood in medical treatment.

Apart from blood donation, the journey will also include talks to share experience among volunteers and build up preparatory blood donation teams at local Red Cross locations.

Since 2013, the journey has been held trans-nationally to deal with shortages of blood for first-aid and treatment, collecting nearly 20,000 units of blood in 2013 and 50,000 units in 2014.
