Earlier, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) decided to close the runway 25R/07L to repair damage caused by lightning in two places spanning a total area of about 10 square metres.

The runway was temporarily closed at 12am on July 16. Repairs were scheduled to end by late July 19 but the damaged areas were fixed earlier than expected.

Traffic volume at Tan Son Nhat averages 35 flights every hour on two runways. According to CAAV, during the closure, relevant units and airlines adjusted plans to make use of domestic flights under the temporary capacity of 30 flights an hour to ensure flight safety and aviation operations.

Airlines adjusted flight timetables and prepared adequate reserve fuel for planes required to circle the airport while waiting for landing space.
