War martyrs commemorated in Dien Bien
A three-day requiem for war martyrs is taking place in the northern mountainous province of Dien Bien through July 5.

The event has gathered some 7,000 war veterans and Buddhist dignitaries, monks and followers.
Delivering his opening speech, Most Venerable Thich Thien Nhon, Chairman of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) Executive Council, affirmed that Vietnamese people, including the Buddhist community, always remember and are proud of the soldiers’ sacrifices.
According to Mua A Son, Chairman of the Dien Bien People’s Committee, the requiem is a practical and meaningful activity to mark the upcoming 68th War Invalids and Martyrs Day (July 27).
At the event, the VBS Executive Council has gifted a number of local disadvantaged families and received an insignia from the Vietnam Veterans’ Association.
