According to deputy director of the hospital Dr. Pham Nhu Hiep, 65 year-old patient Hoang Van V. from Hanoi previously underwent treatment at a hospital in Hanoi, but the tumor’s location was ineligible for surgery or radiation therapy, so V. was transferred to the Hue Central Hospital for SRS treatment.

The radiosurgery was performed using the most advanced cancer treatment radiation system in Vietnam – the Elekta Axesse – worth over US$6 million, funded by the government of Austria.

Each radiosurgery with the machine takes only 15 minutes. Depending on the tumor, the doctor will use 1-3 radiosurgeries. Patients do not have to be put under anesthesia and can be discharged from the hospital after receiving SRS treatment (other radiotherapy treatments can last for around 25 days).
