The selected inmates, who are serving their jail terms at prisons and eligible for parole in line with the regulations of the laws, will be released before their release date.
Additionally, the President also decided to grant amnesty to 225 people with suspended prison sentences and 16 others temporarily suspended from carrying out their sentences.
The Decision will take effect August 31.
Over the past years, the Party and State of Vietnam have granted amnesty to numerous inmates who performed well during their prison terms and were eligible for parole in line with the State President’s decision.
The special amnesty on the occasion of the 70th National Day confirmed again the Party and State's clemency policy for prisoners, encouraging them to reintegrate into society.
During this round of amnesty, there are 34 inmates who are foreign nationals including six from Laos, one from Cambodia, one from Thailand, two from Australia, 16 from China, six from Malaysia and two from Philippines.
During the 2002-2012 period, 82.26% of prisoners who received amnesty have reintegrated well into the community and have stable jobs.
The Central Advisory Council on Amnesty has recommended provinces, cities and localities create favourable and safe conditions for released prisoners to come back to their hometowns and reunite with their families.
