The donation was under an agreement which was signed between the Prudential company and the Children's Support Fund Council in Hanoi on August 10.

Accordingly, Prudential is providing free surgeries to around 320 children with eye defects, such as squint and cataracts, from July to December.

The free operations will be carried out at the Central Eye Hospital and some local hospitals with funding of VND3.5 million (over US$160) per case.

Prudential will also provide VND450 million (US$20,628) to offer eye checks-up and a communications campaign on eye protection for 3,200 children in eight provinces - Binh Dinh, Da Nang, Khanh Hoa, Can Tho, Ca Mau, Bac Lieu, Yen Bai and Bac Giang.

Also this year, Prudential and the Vietnam Children's Support Fund Council held a seminar themed ‘Basic problems in children’s eye care’ in order to discuss solutions to help children, particularly those in remote areas, prevent and recover from eye diseases by themselves.

Initiated in 1998, the ‘For Children’s Eyes’ programme has provided free surgeries for nearly 30,000 children with eye defects and diseases in 63 provinces and cities around the country, at a total cost of nearly VND31 billion (over US$1.4 million).
