The tremendous historical significance of the 1945 August Revolution and the founding of the State of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (SRV), were the focus of discussions at a symposium held in Hanoi on August 24.

The event, hosted by the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences (VASS), was attended by Politburo member and Head of the Party Central Committee Commission for Communication and Education, Dinh The Huynh, and around 300 delegates, including former Party and State leaders, representatives of ministries and sectors, and scientists.

In 70 papers sent to the VASS, the delegates presented their views and new documents about the role of the August Revolution in the national construction and defence.

Addressing the symposium, Politburo member Huynh affirmed that all significant achievements the country has made over the past seven decades, particularly during the 30 years of Doi Moi (Renewal) process, originated from the firm foundation laid by the great success of the August Revolution 1945.

In his opinion, the most important aspects of the August Revolution’s victory were clear-sighted leadership of the Party, patriotism of people and the national great unity bloc.

He asked participants at the event to dig into how the August Revolution’s success impacted the national struggle for liberation, as well as struggles for national liberation in Asia and Africa, and the world’s revolution movements in general.

He also emphasised that as the country is facing both opportunities and challenges, it is necessary for the entire Party, people and army to uphold patriotism, solidarity and the everlasting spirit of the August Revolution to overcome difficulties and move the country forward.
