The area was put into operation after two years of upgrades and renovations with a total investment of over VND102 billion (over US$4.5 million), of which VND90 billion (US$4 million) came from the municipal budget and more than VND12 billion (US$533,400) from the development funds of the Heart Institute.

Located in an area of 18,000 square metres, the technical area consists of four operation rooms, one recovery area for patients after undergoing heart operations, one room for cardiac catheterisation interventions and 10 beds for patients after having cardiac catheterisation procedures.

Speaking at the ceremony, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City municipal People’s Committee Hua Ngoc Thuan said that the technical area was designed and constructed in modern architectural style in order to deploy intensive techniques for treatment of cardiovascular diseases.

The operation of the area is expected to help people access quality health services promptly and easily, significantly contributing to reducing overcrowding for treatment of patients with heart defects and diseases in hospitals in the City.

Over 23 years of operation, the City’s Heart Institute has offered heart checks-up and treatment to over 2.6 million patients as well as performed heart surgeries for 25,000 patients and cardiac catheterisation for nearly 22,000 patients.

Additionally, the Institute has shared techniques and equipment for cardiac surgery and cardiovascular interventions with over 15 hospitals around the country as well as trained nearly 2,600 cardiologists from more than 50 hospitals in the southern region, particularly in Ho Chi Minh City.
