Vietnam Railways to start selling tickets for New Year travels from October
National train operator Vietnam Railways (VNR) has announced that it will begin selling tickets for the upcoming New Year, or Tet, from October 1.
In addition to regular service between Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, the company plans to add more trains to the current schedule to meet rising travel demands during the Vietnamese holiday.
Tet usually sees a spike in the demand for passenger rail transport as people go back home from their places of work for family reunions.
According to the VNR, more train services during this period will increase capacity to 12,000 passengers a day on the north-south route.
The Tet train services will begin on January 25, 2015 and go to February 25, 2016.
VNR says it will reserve one fifth of its ticket to sell to organisations from September 25 to the 30th of the same month, while individuals can purchase the rest online on the company’s websites or at its ticket offices.
Last month, the VNR announced that passengers could now print their electronic tickets instead of paper tickets issued by the company.
