Meeting on implementing anti-drought and salinity prevention in 2016

On February 15, the Steering Committee for drought control and salinization of Tien Giang province held a meeting on implementing anti-drought and salinity prevention of the dry season in 2016. Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee (PPC) Le Van Huong chaired the meeting.

On the 2015-2016 winter-spring crop, Go Cong area has a total area of over 29,000 hectares of rice, in which the area sown from December 15 to the end of December was 26,800 hectares and the area sown from January 1, 2016 was over 2,200 hectares. Due to the rain ended earlier this year, low rainfall, salt penetrated deeply, the water winter-spring crop will be severely affected.

Under these circumstances, in order to actively cope with drought and salinity during the dry season 2015-2016, the PPC has directed the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development in Tien Giang province as well as departments and districts in the east of Tien Giang province to hold many prevention solutions. However, there was 690 hectares of rice in the eastern area died because of the low level of the source region water levels inland, the poor water quality, saline or alum water source.

For the situation of water supply in dry season 2015-2016, so far, there are 24 water supply stations deployed in in the eastern districts to to serve more than 40,000 households and approximately 6,995 households currently living in coastal and riverside cottage door, outside the dyke, lacking of potable water in the dry season of 2016.

Speaking at the meeting, Chairman of the PPC Le Van Huong required each local to continue to maintain and enhance two grade pump, to be proactive in deploying three grades pump in places lacking of water resource, to be proactive in applying solutions to limit losses in manufacturing, ensuring the harvest. At the same time, there are the local processing solutions in the river dike canal as weall as organizing of specific two grades pump in Phuoc Trung commune, Tan Thanh comune, Tan Phuoc comune, Gia Thuan commune and Phuoc Kieng comune.
