Nhan said at a conference reviewing the buy local campaign that it is necessary to look directly at the downsides and introduce specific measures to make the campaign more effective.
The VFF president said that the campaign has had great significance to the Vietnamese economy over the past seven years as the country is deepening its international economic integration.
He suggested reviewing the current state of production and supply chains before selecting a number of goods such as milk, garments, medicine, IT products and services to step up promotion activities.
According to a report, the buy local campaign has helped domestic consumers become aware of locally made products when shopping, while helping domestic enterprises understand their responsibility to produce quality products to meet consumers’ demand.
However, information on Vietnamese goods is not always fully provided to consumers and the sale of inferior and fake goods remains popular.
In addition, some consumers are not yet aware of the campaign’s role in the country’s sustainable economic development and still prefer foreign goods to domestic ones.
In 2016, the campaign’s steering committee is scheduled to work with eight relevant ministries, agencies, 16 local governments as well as media organisations to intensify promotions and honour the of quality Vietnamese goods.
