March 15 announced as Vietnamese Consumers Rights Day
The Ministry of Industry and Trade held a ceremony in Hanoi on March 12 to announce that March 15 has been selected as Vietnamese Consumers Rights Day.
Vietnamese Consumers Rights Day will be celebrated annually on a national scale in March in order to raise awareness on the importance of protecting the rights and interests of consumers.
The event is also expected to disseminate legal information and policies on the protection of consumer rights, raise public awareness on consumer rights, and contribute to building a healthy consumption environment for both consumers and traders.
Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc appreciated positive results in the implementation of policies on the protection of consumer rights.
However, he said that there is a lack of public awareness about the importance of protecting the rights of consumers. In addition the legal system responsible for documenting consumer rights is not up to standard and adequate attention has yet to be paid to the issue from relevant agencies. Thus, the recognition of Vietnamese Consumers Rights Day is of great significance, the Deputy PM noted.
He emphasised that in the context of global integration, particularly with Vietnam's participation in many free trade agreements and organisations, the rights of consumers must be strengthened and protected to effectively integrate into the international community.
