According to forecast, the dry season and saltwater intrusion will continue to extend, threatening water source for people's life in this region. Therefore, all levels and sectors in the province are focusing on many solutions to ensure supplying water supply for people.

According to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the region in Go Cong Tay District, Go Cong Dong district and Go Cong town are supplied water by network of the Tien Giang Water Supply Co.Ltd and the Tien Giang Rural Water Supply Co.Ltd.

The Tien Giang Rural Water Supply Co.Ltd. has 18 stations (12 stations of surface water, 5 underground water station and 1 station used water of Dong Tam B.O.O. The Tien Giang Water Supply Co.Ltd has 6 stations (4 stations of surface water, 1 underground water station and 1 station used water of Dong Tam B.O.O,  are supplying water for 42,424 households in the region.

Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee Le Van Huong inspected the construction of system to supply water in Tan Phu Dong district.

However, due to saltwater situation infiltrated early and long, the water freshwater source in the region is very low (because of using for winter-spring rice’s production), high salinity does not guarantee the water supply’s quality for many station used surface water for people.

Besides, according to estimate of authorities, in the province there is about 7,000 residents living in coastal region, along the banks of Cua Tieu river, outside the dyke, living dispersedly using water source from river, canal affected salt water, being lacked water in this dry season.

To solve difficulty about drinking water supply for people’s life in the region, the Tien Giang Water Supply Co.Ltd has been conducted reception water connection of Dong Tam B.O.O to serve people’s life.

Particular, for many residents living dispersedly in coastal region, along the banks of Cua Tieu river, outside the dyke, the province had a plan to open 122 public water spaucets from water supply stations to provide free water free. Go Cong Tay district opens 35 spaucets, Go Cong town opens 26 spaucets, Go Cong Dong district opens 61 spaucets. So far, many water supply units have installed public spaucets to open for serveing people (Go Cong Dong district opened 61/61 public spaucets).

In addition, to solve the water shortage for life in local areas such as Binh Dong commune (Go Cong town), Phuoc Trung commune, Tan Thanh commune (Go Cong Dong district), the province has recently installed the water pipe connected to the water pipe of Dong Tam B.O.O, investing welldrills to serve for households lacked of water in Binh Dong area, carrying out many solutions to supply water for shortage water regions in Phuoc Trung commune, Tan Thanh commune (Go Cong Dong district).

Along with these above measures, before the forecast of drought, saltwater intrusion to extend in the coming period, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development proposed two water suppy companies actively associated with local and relevant agencies to announce people in region to store water for the needs of eating and drinking, accepting to use water with salinity exceeding regulatory standard (depending on the salinity of the water source in freshening system) to serve the demand for other activities, stimultaneously conducting to connect the water source of Dong Tam B.O.O as planned to serve people.

Besides, the agriculture sector and water supply units have built plans to transport water by barge to provide people’s water in Tan Phu Dong district to submit plan for the Provincial People's Committee’s approval.

After the plan is approved by the Provincial People's Committee, the transportation water to add storage pond to supply water to people of Tan Phu Dong island district will be processed immediately. This work is expected to be done in early March.

Besides efforts to ensure clean water for people in island district, the province has also conducted public spaucets for residents living far from water pipe route. Currently, the Tien Giang Water Supply Co.Ltd has installed 20/20 public spaucets for 2.781 households.
