VFF extends greetings to Buddhist dignitaries on Buddha's birthday

President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Central Committee, Nguyen Thien Nhan, congratulated Buddhists on the occasion of Lord Buddha’s 2,560th birthday.

In a letter to the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS), President Nhan noted that the occasion of Buddha’s birthday in 2016 bears a very special significance as the whole country is celebrating the success of the 12th National Party Congress; the 35th anniversary of the VBS; as well as preparing for the election of deputies to the 14th National Assembly and People’s Councils at all levels for the 2016-2021 tenure.

VFF President Nhan conveyed his best wishes for peace and happiness to the Buddhist dignitaries, monks, nuns and followers on the occasion.

He also emphasised that during the past 35 years, the VBS has always promoted the ‘Protecting the Nation – Comforting the People’ motto, and actively helped strengthen national unity.

The VFF Central Committee highly values the contributions of the Vietnamese Buddhist dignitaries, monks, nuns and followers to the successful implementation of the national socio-economic and cultural development tasks, helping ensure political security, social order and safety, national sovereignty and territorial integrity, and strengthening national solidarity.

He said he believes that, as a VFF member, the VBS will continue to promote patriotic movements and campaigns launched by the VFF Central Committee, as well as consolidate national unity to create a prosperous population as well as a strong, democratic, equal and civilised country.
