King Tran Nhan Tong Institute to be established at Vietnam National University, Hanoi
The Prime Minister has issued Decision No. 1717/QĐ-TTg dated August 1, 2016 on the establishment of King Tran Nhan Tong Institute on the campus of the Hanoi-based Vietnam National University.

The institute is tasked with studying heritages, cultural values and the career of King Tran Nhan Tong; cultural values and thoughts of the Tran dynasty and relevant issues; provision policy consultations on development, preservation and promotion of the king’s heritages and cultural values and traditional cultural values of the nation; and organising training activities on relevant branches in line with current regulations.
The institute is headquartered in Hanoi and has a legal status as well as its own seal and bank account. Its organisational and operational structures follow the regulations on the self-reliance mechanism of a public science and technology organisation.
President of the Vietnam National University, Hanoi specifically stipulates the functions, duties, rights and organisational structure of the King Tran Nhan Tong Institute as well as decides the leaders and workers of the institute in accordance with the current law.
King Tran Nhan Tong was born in 1258 and passed away in 1308. He was known as one of the most intelligent and humane kings in Vietnamese history. He contributed significantly to expanding the country’s territory, sweeping away riots, strengthening security in the northwestern region, and leading the resistance war against the Yuan invaders to success.
Tran Nhan Tong founded and developed the Truc Lam Zen Buddhist sect in Vietnam, which made him the only king to be respectfully called King-Monk. Vietnamese people have set up a number of temples and statues nationwide to worship King Tran Nhan Tong and have named streets after him.
