General Secretary of the National Assembly Nguyen Hanh Phuc said on September 16 that it was an issue of public concern and should be discussed along with other socio-economic issues.

The Standing Committee is convening in Hanoi to discuss preparations for the second plenary meeting of the 14th parliament, scheduled to open on October 20.

The plenary is expected to last 24 days during which law-makers will pass four bills on association, religion and faith, asset auction and revisions to the criminal code.

The National Assembly will also discuss 14 other bills, examine reports on socio-economic development and the use of budget in 2016 as well as decide on plans for next year.

The Standing Committee also agreed to expand the agricultural land use exemption programme as a measure to encourage investment in agriculture and rural development while promoting the use of science and technology in this field.
