A report presented at the working session stressed that over the last four years, trade union organisations nationwide had exerted efforts to fulfil the major tasks set out by the 11th Congress.

The trade unions at all levels have gathered members’ contributions to the development of hundreds of legal documents, policies and regulations relating to workers while patriotic emulation campaigns launched by the trade unions have made great contributions to the implementation of socioeconomic tasks.

Speaking at the session, President Tran Dai Quang acknowledged efforts made by the VGCL in recent years, including designing labour and trade union policies, working as an advisor to the government in terms of building mechanisms that protect the legitimate rights and interests of workers and ensuring sustainable development.

The President also urged trade union organisations to pay more attention to promoting the exercise of democracy at the grassroots level so as to strengthen social activities and encourage workers to exercise their right to mastery.

He said the VGCL should further strengthen itself to befit its role as a sociopolitical organisation of a large number of workers, representing their strength and interests.

The State leader also asked trade unions at all levels to thoroughly grasp the guiding viewpoints and ideology of the 12th Party Congress’ resolution, as well as a resolution on building up the working class while strengthening the industrialisation and modernisation process and international integration.

At the same time, the VGCL should push for the establishment of trade unions in the private economic sector, joint ventures and the foreign-invested economic sector in order to better perform the function of protecting the legitimate rights and interests of workers while acting as a reliable source of support for them to uphold their rights.
