Mekong delta province announces first case of Zika
The Department of Health in the Mekong delta province of Long An reported a four year old girl in Ben Luc Town suspected of having contracted the Zika virus.
As per the Department, the girl October 9 had symptoms of fever and rash. Next day, she was taken to the Tropical Disease Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City for examination.
There, she was diagnosed with rash and treated at home yet doctors took her samples to sent Pateur Institute for tests.
Test result carried out by Pasteur Institute October 20 showed that she was positive for the Zika virus.
Currently the girl recovered.
Deputy Director of Long An Department of Health Vo Thi De said that this is the first case of Zika virus disease in the province. Hearing the case, the Department of Health urged the province’s Preventive Medicine Center coordination with Pasteur Institute to conduct epidemiology investigation and mark off the affected area as per the Ministry of Health’s guideline.
