The Hanoi Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union held a meeting for youth volunteers who participated in taking over the capital in October 1954.
In July 1954, the National Salvation Youth Union (now the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Central Committee) formed a Youth Volunteer team, which included 300 members, to join army units to take over administrative and military facilities and communicate the Party’s and Government’s guidelines and policies.
At the meeting, the delegates expressed their faith in the Party and State as well as promised to continue to devote themselves to the cause of national construction and defence, being worthy of the Hanoian people’s trust.
On the occasion, an exhibition themed ‘Hanoi – a peaceful city’ officially opened at the Ly Thai To Flower Park in Hoan Kiem District on October 9.
On display are more than 100 photos and paintings, highlighting the image of a peaceful capital with age-old architecture, tangible and intangible cultural heritages and a civilised and cultured people. The event will last until October 11.
On the same day, the final round of the 43rd Open Hanoimoi Newspaper Run Tournament for Peace took place around Hoan Kiem Lake, with the participation of more than 1,2000 athletes, including over 250 foreigners.
