The month will run from October 17 to November 18 to mark the day an appeal for help to the poor was made by President Ho Chi Minh (October 17, 1946).

The launching ceremony was attended by Politburo members, including President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Central Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan and Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue, who is Head of the Steering Committee of the National Target Program on building new-style rural areas.

Speaking at the launching ceremony, VFF President Nguyen Thien Nhan called on ministries, departments, organisations, individuals, businesses at home and abroad and overseas Vietnamese to continue contributing to the “Fund for the Poor” and supporting social welfare programmes to help the poor and those living in disadvantaged areas to escape poverty.

The Party and State continued to pursue a strategy of developing the economy in conjunction with social progress and equality, thereby creating conditions and an environment in which for the people to develop their production and enrich themselves while contributing to the national construction and defence, he said.

He also took the occasion to thank organisations, individuals, benefactors, overseas Vietnamese and international friends for their kind support for the campaign in past years.

They also contributed to the construction and repair of over 34,400 houses for the poor and provided financial support to 149,400 needy households.

Since the launch of the campaign fifteen years ago, the National Fund for the Poor has collected over VND11trillion while the fund has mobilised VND31 trillion.
