In 2017, the Tien Giang health sector implemented the plan of prevention and disease prevention; health education and communication as well as the targeted health programs. There were 17/28 communicable diseases, of which 12 diseases increased and 6 diseases decreased. Particularly, dengue fever had 3,111 cases including 3 deaths and increased 200% in death rate over the same period. The province had 5 cases of food poisoning with 192 people infected. The medical examination and treatment under the Law on Insurance was stable. The average hospital utilization rate was 105%, the total number of visits in the province increased by 9.8%. The overload was changed due to the implementation of the project to reduce hospital overload in the 2014-2020 period.

In 2018, the Tien Giang Health sector will consolidate and improve the health system, to promote preventive medicine, HIV/AIDS prevention and food hygiene and safety, to improve the quality of medical examination and treatment and rehabilitation services, to develop traditional medicine and pharmacy, to promote reproductive health care, population - family planning and human resources development. Some specific indicators are as follows such as: over 96% of children under 1 years of age are fully vaccinated; over 95% of the communes meet the national health criteria; over 81% of the population participated in health insurance.
