The World No Tobacco Day in 2018 with the theme "Tobacco and Heart Disease," is a message to remind people to be fully aware of the harmful effects of tobacco. According to the World Health Organization, every year cigarette causes the deaths of more than 7 million people, including about 900,000 deaths from passive smoking.

In Vietnam, every year, an average person smokes nearly VND 700,000 for cigarettes. With 12 million smokers, it is estimated that one year we will spend over VND 8,200 billion for this item. That money is enough to buy food for 10.6 million people. According to statistics, the costs of inpatient, outpatient and self-treatment for five groups of tobacco-related diseases is nearly VND 9,000 billion.

On the National Tobacco Day this year, the Tien Giang Department of Health organized a media campaign and asked departments, sectors and mass organizations to jointly organize propaganda, dissemination and strictly implementation the Law on Tobacco Prevention and Fight with contents focusing on the Law on Tobacco Prevention and Fight, regulations on the implementation of smoke-free environment in the workplace, etc…

After the meeting, 150 unionists, young people; pupils, students of the union of the provincial agencies and the Tien Giang Medical College marched by cars, motorbikes to propagandize about tobacco harm prevention on streets of My Tho city.
