Addressing the event, Politburo member Truong Thi Mai underlined the contributions made by the elderly to national development. She said taking care of the elderly is the responsibility of the whole society.
She also urged administrations at all levels, as well as organisations and individuals, to raise their sense of responsibility and join the efforts of the Party and State to take better care of the elderly, promote their role, unite them, and protect their legitimate rights. The whole country is mobilised to ensure that the elderly live a healthy and happy life, she added.
After 22 years of foundation, the Vietnam Elderly Association has developed at both central and local levels and now has around nine million members. The association's activities and campaigns have made effective contributions to ensuring political stability and social security.
