The census aims at gathering basic information on the country’s population and housing in service of the study and analysis of the population and housing development process in the entire territory of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, meeting the demand for information on evaluating the results of the implementation of socio-economic development plans for the 2011-2020 period, as well as for building socio-economic development strategies during 2021-2030.
It will also serve the supervision of the implementation of the 12th Central Party Committee Resolution on the population work in the new period, while monitoring the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals as committed to by the Government of Vietnam and providing information for the development of a national population database.
The census focuses on collecting general information on population; migration status; education and professional level; disability status; marital status; fertility, mortality and population growth rates; birth registration status for newborns; the situation of labour and employment; housing status; and households’ basic living conditions.
The census will last for 25 days, starting at the beginning of April next year.
Preliminary results will be made public by July 2019, while sample survey results will be published in the fourth quarter of 2019. The results of the entire census will be announced in the second quarter of 2020 and the thematic analysis reports published in the last quarter of the same year.
