Delegates focused on assessing the current status and proposing mechanisms and policies, providing solutions for urban development. Tien Giang province now has 11 district-level administrative units, including one urban grade 1, one urban grade 3, one urban grade 4, and seven urban grade 7.

The town planning has been more paid attention by local authorities, reflecting on innovative thinking and long-term vision. The coverage ratio of the zoning plan increased significantly, the quality of the project was improved. Specifically, Go Cong town, the nucleus of the eastern metropolitan economic area of the province has recently been recognized as a urban grade 3 by 2017.

Speaking at the conference, Chairman of the PPC Le Van Huong noted the comments as well as recommendations of local departments. He reckoned that rural urban development is one of the most important issues today. He also asked the departments to conduct inspections, to assess the urban development, because the urbanization rate now are more than 15%, the central area as more than 22%, the western region as about 85%, the eastern region as about 15%.

Proposals and policy mechanisms set out at this conference considered as an important foundation for Tien Giang province to reach its goal set for 2020 with the whole province to have sixteen urban centers, including one urban grade 1, two urban grade 3; twelve urban grade 5. This objective is considered as a basis for localities to step by step build and perfect the urban system with modern socio-technical infrastructure and clean urban environment to be distributed and rationally developed in the area to ensure each urban development stably, to contribute to accelerate industrialization and modernization of the country.
