Communication campaign of gender imbalance kicked off

ABO - On October 11, the Tien Giang province Department of Health held a meeting to kick off a communication campaign to raise public awareness of imbalanced sex ratio at birth in Vietnam.

The campaign aimed to urge the nation to provide girls with all possible conditions to promote and heighten their status in society.

It will increase people’s awareness of gender imbalance at birth occurring in Vietnam and its impacts on the country’s sustainable development for the enforcement of the government’s policies in gender equality and the prevention of sex selection abortion.

In the Tien Giang province, the sex ratio at birth in 2014 was 109.6 per 100 girls; 109.7 boys to 100 girls by 2015; 109.6 boys to 100 girls by 2016; 110.97 boys to 100 girls by 2017; and 109.4 boys to 100 girls in the first nine months of 2018.

After the ceremony, representatives of leaders of departments, pupils participated in propaganda and mobilized people to raise public awareness of imbalanced sex ratio at birth.
