Accordingly, the water level currently in the Mekong River in the middle-class region is lower than the average of many years and lower than that of 2017. Freshwater storage ponds in Go Cong area as Tham Thu pond (Go Cong town), Vam Lang and Tan Thanh ponds (Go Cong Dong district) currently are deposit sediment.

The amount of water stored in ponds is not enough to serve domestic water for people in the eastern districts, especially in the dry season. In order to ensure timely storage of water and supply of domestic water for the people in the east in the dry season and salinity limit in 2019, ensuring social security, Tien Giang provincial People's Committee decided to announce an emergency situation of water shortage for people in the eastern districts in the dry season of 2019.

In addition, Tien Giang provincial People's Committee assigned the Tien Giang province Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to coordinate with relevant units and localities to immediately implement freshwater dredging works and related items to keep up the time of supplying domestic water for people in the eastern districts (such as construction of fences to protect and dredge sweet storage ponds to supply water for people in the eastern districts, etc...).

The Management Board of the Construction and Investment Project of Agriculture and Rural Development is assigned to coordinate with the concerned units to prepare, submit the appraisal and approval of the investment policy proposal, emergency construction economic technique report in accordance with the Law on Public Investment and Construction Law.
