Doan Kim Thanh, director of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union's Youth Development Science and Technology Centre, and head of the competition's organisation board, said: “The award helps to nurture young talent in scientific research and develop projects with potential that will contribute to the country’s development."

All students from universities, colleges and vocational schools nationwide can join the competition as an individual or in groups of no more than five.

The award accepts research projects in 12 fields, including pharmaceutical chemistry technology, biotechnology and biomedical technology, information technology, food technology, education, economy, engineering, agriculture, forestry and fishery, law, planning, architecture and construction, natural resources and environment, and social affairs and humanities.

Contestants can submit their entries at the Youth Scientific and Technological Promotion Centre at No 1 Pham Ngoc Thach Street in HCM City’s District 1, or via email at khoahoctre@gmail.com, or the website www.khoahoctre.com.vn.

Outstanding projects will receive one special prize worth 20 million VND (860 USD), first prizes worth 10 million VND (430 USD) each, second prizes worth 5 million VND (215 USD) each, third prizes worth 3 million VND (128 USD) each, and consolation prizes worth 2 million VND (85 USD) each.

The competition’s final round and an awards ceremony will be held at the HCM City University of Transport in November.

The Eureka Award was organised for the first time in 1999. It attracted more than 900 entries from 2,000 students from 106 educational units last year. A total of 100 scientific projects were awarded Eureka prizes with total value of 336 million VND (14,425 USD).

This year, the competition is hosted by the HCM City chapter of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union in collaboration with the Vietnam National University-HCM City.
