Over the past few days, Tien Giang province has focused its efforts on proactively implementing measures to respond to and prevent African swine fever but the epidemic is developing complicatedly and spreading rapidly. Up to this point, the province has found 34 cases of pigs showing signs of being infected with African swine fever in 16 communes of Cai Be district, Cai Lay district, Cai Lay town, Chau Thanh district, Cho Gao district; at the same time, organizing to destroy 956 infected animals, the total weight was nearly 48.4 tons.

With the motto of urgently preventing and controlling epidemics, minimizing the spread on a large scale, the Tien Giang provincial People's Committee has issued 20 documents to direct and organize many emergency meetings and at the same time organize inspections at the grassroots level. In particular, in order to effectively prevent and control the epidemic, the province has provided adequate supplies, anti-epidemic tools, antiseptic antidotes, prepared ready locations for infected pigs. In order to prevent the spread, the province has maintained 7 animal quarantine checkpoints on major transport routes, strictly controlling the transportation, buying and selling pigs and pork products in the area, including waterway traffic, etc…
Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Minister Ha Cong Tuan emphasized that the African swine fever is a pandemic of the livestock sector, causing huge economic losses in 53 provinces in the country. Particularly in Tien Giang province, the Deputy Minister highly appreciated the initiative in anti-epidemic direction and administration of the whole political system, government and professional branches. He requested Tien Giang province to continue to focus on controlling transportation, buying and selling pigs and pork products, as this is the most common and dangerous path of transmission.
