Vietnamese expatriates advised to restrict travel amid Covid-19 pandemic
ABO/NDO - Vietnam’s Foreign Ministry has issued an advisory urging Vietnamese citizens living and studying abroad not to return to Vietnam at present and to comply with local coronavirus outbreak prevention regulations.
Vietnamese citizens living abroad are advised not to fly back to Vietnam to avoid infection during their travel. |
The advisory came as many countries and territories around the world have imposed bans on entry, exit and transit in order to contain the Covid-19 pandemic.
The ministry added that for those whose travel is unavoidable, they must keep themselves up-to-date with local government and airline rules and have the necessary documents for travel in hand.
Vietnamese citizens returning to Vietnam must comply with health check and quarantine regulations.
For assistance, they can contact the hotlines of Vietnamese missions abroad, the Foreign Ministry’s consular affairs department or the citizen protection hotline at +84.981.84.84.84.
The Vietnamese Embassy in Malaysia asked Vietnamese citizens to comply with a local travel restriction order, which has been extended to April 14, and to contact the nearest health facilities if showing Covid-19 symptoms.
Meanwhile Vietnamese diplomatic missions in the United States have encouraged Vietnamese students to stay there to avoid the risk of contracting the virus when travelling.
Vietnamese Ambassador to the US Ha Kim Ngoc said that the two countries are cooperating effectively in combating Covid-19 on both a bilateral and multilateral basis.
In Vietnam, the health of three seriously ill Covid-19 patients is improving, according to doctors who are directly responsible for their treatment.
A patient has been taken off the ventilator while another has shown improvements and doctors are considering reducing the use of the breathing machine. Another patient on a life support technique known as ECMO is also getting better.
As of the morning of March 29, Vietnam reported 179 cases of Covid-19, of which 21 have recovered and were discharged from hospitals.
