Chairman of the PPC checks the water supply for production in Cai Be and Cai Lay districts

ABO - On April 6, Chairman of Tien Giang People's Committee (PPC) Le Van Huong worked with the People's Committees of Cai Be and Cai Lay districts on the situation of water supply water for production in the complicated salinity intrusion situation recently.

Leaders of Cai Be and Cai Lay district reported on the situation of salinity prevention and the supply of fresh water for production in the past time.

Accordingly, in the past few days, taking advantage of salinity reduction within the permitted level, Cai Be and Cai Lay districts have implemented the operation of opening sluice gates, dams and notified the people to take and store fresh water for production; at the same time, regularly checking the operation of dams managed by the district, repairing the system of dykes and sluice gates to prevent salinity.

Specifically, in order to protect production for farmers, Cai Be district has directed functional agencies to localize the saline intrusion areas, installing the pumping stations at the main sewers to pump fresh water into irrigation systems for production.

At the working session, leaders of Cai Be and Cai Lay districts suggested that the province should increase the budget for dredging in-field irrigation for the locality; shifting the management model of sluice and dam operation to bring about high efficiency.

Chairman of the PPC Le Van Huong acknowledged the proposals of Cai Be and Cai Lay districts and requested the Tien Giang Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to survey some dredging and waterway constructions, inter-field benefits, which are urgently necessary, to have a plan for implementation in the coming time.

He also noted that the leaders of two districts should mobilize people to have a solution of sweet storage suitable to the actual situation of the locality as well as the family situation to be able to use long term use.
