100 voluntary blood donors honoured

ABO/NDO- As many as 100 exemplary voluntary blood donors representing tens of thousands nationwide were honoured at a ceremony held in Hanoi on July 29.

The ceremony was held by the National Steering Committee for Voluntary Blood Donation, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Red Cross Society, and the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion.

President of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Red Cross Society Bui Thi Hoa said that the honourees have made great contributions to voluntary blood donation activities and have also mobilised many others to participate in the blood donation campaign.

The 100 exemplary voluntary blood donors include 20 women and 80 men, the oldest at 61 years old and youngest only 22 years old. In particular, eight people have donated blood 70-99 times while two people have donated blood more than 100 times.

Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Do Van Chien lauded the role of the Health Ministry, the National Steering Committee for Voluntary Blood Donation, the Vietnam Red Cross Society and other relevant agencies in organising the blood donation campaign and activities to honour blood donors.

He noted that voluntary blood donation has become a cultural beauty in the community with the participation of an increasing number of people from all walks of life.

He expressed his belief that blood donors will spread the spirit of sharing and compassion to other people in the community.
