Candle-lighting ceremonies held nationwide to commemorate heroes and fallen soldiers
ABO/NDO- Candle-lighting ceremonies were held at cemeteries across the country on the evening of July 26 on the occasion of the 76th anniversary of the Wounded and Fallen Soldiers’ Day (1947-2023).
A delegation from the Binh Thuan provincial Youth Union and the provincial Department of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs visited and offered incense and flowers at the provincial martyrs’ cemetery.
A total of 20 gifts worth 2 million VND each were delivered to families of policy beneficiaries in Hong Liem and Hong Son communes, Ham Thuan Bac district at the event.
15 scholarships worth 1.3 million VND each were also awarded to disadvantaged students in the district on the occasion.

On the same day, the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, in coordination with the Quang Tri provincial Youth Union, hosted a candlelit vigil at the Road 9 National Martyrs Cemetery, the resting place of more than 10,800 fallen soldiers from across the country who laid down their lives at battlefields in Quang Tri and the west area of Truong Son mountain range during the 1954-1975 period.
At the programme, the organisers presented 20 gifts worth 1 million each to families of policy beneficiaries and national contributors in Quang Tri province.
Nearly 700 delegates and youth union members lit candles at around 4,000 tombs of fallen soldiers at Long An provincial cemetery in recognition of their great sacrifice in the struggles for national independence.
In Quang Binh province, all 84 local cemeteries welcomed delegations of youth union members, who came to offer flowers and incense to pay gratitude to fallen soldiers.
Also yesterday, more than 30,000 candles were lit at 106 cemeteries in Binh Dinh province to commemorate the great service of those who laid down their lives for the nation.
