Respect-paying ceremony held for former Politburo member Le Phuoc Tho

ABO/NDO- A respect-paying ceremony for former Politburo member and former Head of the Party Central Committee (PCC)’s Organisation Commission Le Phuoc Tho, was held in Can Tho City on July 9, as national funeral etiquette.

Senior leaders attended the respect-paying ceremony, including Politburo member, permanent member of the Secretariat and head of the PCC’s Organisation Commission Truong Thi Mai; former President Nguyen Minh Triet; former Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung; former National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Van An; former permanent member of the Secretariat, General Le Hong Anh; standing Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Tran Thanh Man; Secretary of Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Nguyen Van Nen and Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai, among others.

Head of the PCC’s Organisation Commission Truong Thi Mai delivered a eulogy at the ceremony, reviewing the life, revolutionary career, and great contributions of Le Phuoc Tho to the Party, State and nation.

The eulogy emphasised that comrade Le Phuoc Tho spent nearly a century of tireless effort, fulfilling the responsibilities of a leader and a Party member. He was also absolutely loyal to the revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation and was always dedicated to work and ready to receive and accomplish all assigned tasks.

Le Phuoc Tho was born in 1927 in the former province of Minh Hai, now Ca Mau Province, and permanently resided in Can Tho City. He joined the Party in 1949 and served in various posts during his revolutionary career.

He was honoured with the Ho Chi Minh Order, the 75-year Party membership badge and many other decorations, in recognition of his contributions to the Party and the State.

He passed away on July 6, 2023. After the respect-paying ceremony, the burial ceremony was held on the same day at his hometown cemetery in Thoi Binh district, Ca Mau province.
