Vietnam aims to have 80% new-style rural communes by 2025

ABO/NDO- Vietnam set a target of having at least 80% of communes recognised as new-style rural communes and 50% of districts and 17-19 centrally-run provinces and cities completing the task of building new-style rural areas by 2025.

The information was announced at a conference held by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) on July 17 to review the three-year implementation of the National Target Programme on building new-style rural areas in the 2021-2025 period.

The country now has 6,022 out of 8,177 communes meeting the standards set out for new-style rural areas, reaching 73.65% while 1,331 communes have been recognised as advanced new-style rural communes and 176 others have met the standards of model new-style rural areas.

In addition, 263 districts in 58 centrally-run provinces and cities and five provinces have completed the task of building new-style rural areas.

According to the MARD, over 1.75 quadrillion VND was mobilised as of June 2023 to implement the National Target Programme on building new-style rural areas in the 2021-2025 period.

“The National Target Programme on building new-style rural areas has seen the highest rate of disbursement from the central budget among the three national target programmes,” said Ngo Truong Son, chief of the Central Coordinating Office for New-style Rural Development.
